What's New: Configuring Default Consent for Communication Channels on Sign-Up

Admins can now configure the default opt-in or opt-out state for each communication channel on the sign-up form.

Release Date: 30th July 2026

You can now configure the default opt-in or opt-out state for each communication channel on the sign-up form. Previously, admins had no way to control how communication preference toggles appeared to constituents during sign-up. This often led to unintended subscription gaps and time spent cleaning up consent data afterward.

The new consent settings in the Sign-up Flow Builder let you set the default toggle state for each channel — Email Updates, Post, Phone, and Text — individually.

What you can now do

  • Set each communication channel to default to Opted In or Opted Out for constituents who don't already have a preference on their profile

  • Customize the field label and description constituents see for each channel

  • Control which channels appear on the sign-up form

How the defaults work

  • If a constituent already has a communication preference on their profile (opted in or opted out), the toggle reflects their existing preference — your configured default does not override it.

  • If a constituent has no existing preference (e.g. a brand new record), the toggle shows the default you configured.

  • These defaults only apply when the Communication and Privacy section is visible on the sign-up form. If the section is hidden, existing preferences are retained for known records, and brand new records are set to receive transactional communications only.

Tip: We recommend showing the Communication and Privacy section on the sign-up form and keeping them all "Opted In" — especially for Email and Text.
