The Networking Recommendation workflow sends automated emails suggesting 3 people a registered member might know — based on shared work, education, location, interests, and skills. Each email also includes a link to update their own profile, keeping directory data fresher over time.
What It Does
Finds people who look similar based on current and past jobs, education, city, interests, and skills
Emails each eligible member 3 suggested matches, with a short "why you might know them" line (e.g., "also worked at…" or "lives in…")
Includes a link to view each suggested person's profile
Includes a link to update their own profile
Helps members reconnect and keeps directory data fresher
How Matches Are Chosen
Someone is suggested when they share at least 2 of the following with the recipient:
Current job (company, role, industry) | Education (course, school, specialisation) |
City | Interests |
Skills | Past jobs or past education |
Suggested people must be active and Listed in the directory. The system also gets smarter over time:
People already shown (if the last email was opened) are not shown again — recipients see fresh faces each time
If a member clicked a suggestion before, future emails lean toward similar people
Each suggestion includes a line like "also worked at…" or "lives in…" explaining the connection
Who Gets the Email
A member receives the email only if they meet all of the following:
Registered on the platform
Active profile
Can receive email
Has at least 3 strong matches — if fewer than 3 matches are found, that person is skipped entirely (no partial emails)
How to Set It Up
Step 1: Access Automations
Navigate to Email Communication → Automations tab.
Step 2: Create a New Workflow
Click on the "+" sign to initiate a new workflow.
Step 3: Select Workflow Type
Choose "Make networking recommendations" to set up the workflow.
Step 4: Name the Workflow
Provide a name for the workflow.
Step 5: Customise Email Frequency and Content
Adjust the frequency of email delivery and customise the email content. Use the email preview on the right to check accuracy. Once finalised, select Next.
Step 6: Review the Workflow
Review the workflow setup. You can select "Check recommendations" to preview the system's suggested connections for different profiles before activating.
Step 7: Activate
After confirmation, the workflow goes live. Manage it using Reports, Edit, Delete, and Mark as Complete. Selecting "Mark as Complete" stops the automation — no future emails will be sent.
💡 Only one Networking Recommendation workflow can be active at a time. It can run more than once — each send generates a new batch of suggestions.
How It Flows
Step | What happens |
1 | Admin activates the workflow and schedules the send time |
2 | At the scheduled time, the system scans all registered, active members who can receive email |
3 | For each person, the system looks for 3 strong profile matches. If fewer than 3 are found, that person is skipped. |
4 | Personalised email is sent with 3 suggested profiles, match reasons, and a profile update link |
5 | Recipient clicks are tracked — viewing a suggestion and clicking the profile update link are recorded separately |
6 | Next time the workflow runs, already-shown suggestions (if the email was opened) are excluded — fresh faces each time |
What You Can See After It Runs
After each send, check the workflow reports to see:
How many people were emailed — total recipients who had 3+ matches
How many opened a suggested profile — clicked through to view someone's profile
How many used the link to update their own profile — the re-engagement signal
❓ FAQs
Can I have more than one Networking Recommendation workflow active?
No. Only one can be active at a time. You can run it multiple times — each send generates fresh suggestions.
What if a member has fewer than 3 matches?
They're skipped entirely for that send. No partial emails are sent. As more members sign up and complete their profiles, the match pool grows and more people become eligible.
Will members see the same suggestions each time?
No. If they opened the previous email, those suggestions are excluded from the next send. They see fresh people each time.
Can I target these emails to specific groups or selected users?
Not at this time. The workflow targets all eligible registered users automatically.
Does this replace the invite workflow?
No. The invite workflow brings new members to the platform. Networking Recommendations engage members who are already registered — it's a retention and re-engagement tool, not a sign-up tool.
Can unregistered users receive these emails?
No. Only registered, approved users with active profiles are eligible.
