Counting Gift Splits as Individual Gifts on Competitive & Crowdfunding Pages

Customize how gift counts are displayed on competitive and crowdfunding pages by choosing whether to count gifts by transaction or by each fund split within a transaction.

Overview

On Almabase, a donor can split a single transaction across multiple funds.

For example:

  • A donor gives $100

  • Splits it as:

    • $40 → Fund A

    • $30 → Fund B

    • $30 → Fund C

Now, you may want to either show this as 1 gift (because it was 1 transaction) OR show it as 3 gifts (each fund split as one gift), reflecting stronger participation across funds and improving how campaigns appear publicly.

Among the two, you can choose how gift counts should be calculated for each campaign page.

How to control the gift count?

Turn ON/OFF the toggle under "Campaign Settings":

Show each fund donation as a separate gift

Your selection will apply across all relevant areas of the page.

How It Works

If Toggle is OFF (Default Behavior)

  • 1 transaction = 1 gift

  • Splits do NOT increase gift count

  • Participation challenges count transactions only

If Toggle is ON

  • Each fund split = 1 gift

  • A single transaction split across 5 funds = 5 gifts

  • Participation challenges count each split as a gift

Example: Participation Challenge

Let’s say:

  • Challenge goal: 10 gifts

  • Funds eligible: Fund 1, Fund 2, Fund 3

  • Donations received:

Donor

Fund 1

Fund 2

Fund 3

Sarah

$10

$20

Claire

$30

$10

$20

Charlie

$10

$20

Tom

$10

$20

$30

When Toggle is OFF

Gift count = 4
(Each row = 1 transaction)

When Toggle is ON

Gift count = 10
(Each fund split counted separately)

Note: Even if the same donor gives multiple times, each transaction and each split are counted separately based on the toggle.

FAQs

1. Does this affect the amount raised?

No. Only the gift count changes. The total amount remains unchanged.

2. Does this affect gift syncing to Raiser's Edge?

No. Sync behavior remains transaction-based unless configured otherwise.

3. Does this affect Checkout Campaign Pages?

No. This applies only to:

  • Competitive Fundraising Pages

  • Crowdfunding Pages

4. If a donor gives twice in one day, how is it counted?

Each transaction is separate.

If toggle is:

  • OFF → 2 gifts

  • ON → Count based on the number of splits within each transaction

5. Will historical data update when I turn this on?

Yes. The displayed gift count updates dynamically based on your selected setting.

No transaction data is altered.

6. Does this impact Matching Gift Challenges?

Matching challenges are amount-based.
Gift count behavior only affects:

  • Participation Challenges that are based on Gifts

7. Should I turn this ON or OFF?

Turn it ON if:

  • You want participation challenges to reflect fund-level support

  • Donors commonly split across multiple funds

  • You want to showcase broader engagement

Keep it OFF if:

  • You want gift count to reflect number of transactions only

  • Your reporting aligns with transaction-based counting

Recommended Best Practice

If you are running:

  • A multi-fund Giving Day

  • Class or department-based challenges

  • Fund-specific participation campaigns

We recommend enabling split-based counting to better reflect engagement momentum.
